Moving at Full Speed: Szeged Proves Most Biking City in Hungary
A total of 4,963 bikers from 1,670 teams of 1,582 companies have so far registered for the Bike To Work! spring campaign, which was launched on 6 May.
The game has different categories to measure the biking performance of companies and cities.
In the course of the first two weeks of the national campaign, which was organised with the aim to promote biking and will last until the end of May, those who use a bicycle in Hungary have
• biked a total of 223,850 kilometres,
• saved a total of HUF 32.2 million on fuel,
• prevented the emission of 36 tons of carbon-dioxide to the environment and
• burnt a total of more than 4 million kilocalories.
Among cities outside Budapest, Szeged is the most biking one: until the date of this article, those who joined the campaign have biked to work under this scheme on a total of 1,535 days here, the second city being Debrecen and the third Székesfehérvár (with 699 and 544 biking days, respectively).
Counting the distances, the ranking is somewhat different: in this respect, Szeged also comes first with 13,662 kilometres, the second is Székesfehérvár (7,180) and the third is Debrecen (6,497).
During both the spring (6-31 May) and the autumn (9-22 September) campaigns, registration is possible at any time. Those who register will not only become more fit and can enjoy stress-free transport but may also win valuable prizes.
In the prize game, which offers a total prize value of HUF two and a half million, participants can win top-brand bicycles, exciting adventure programs, city sightseeing walks, entrance tickets, bicycle accessories and other gifts.
