The first 25 participants of ‘Gent knapt op’ signed their contract
In November ’19 an official signing moment took place for the first 25 participating households to ‘Gent knapt op’. Together with the deputy-mayors of Housing and Social Affairs, all the recruiters and other fellow workers, this was a special moment.
Besides the short speeches of both deputy-mayors, also Bart and Margo told about their experiences during the project up to now. Bart is a recruiter who operates in the neighbourhood of Brugse Poort. Margo gives technical support for the renovations. Together with the participants, she makes the renovation plans.
Marlies, one of our participants, testified about the situation she and her family are in, and what the project means for them. Due to a child that is very sick, the family slipped down to poverty. Renovating their house with ‘Gent knapt op’ means that live becomes more bearable.
After signing, all the participants received a little present from the ‘Gent knapt op’ team. Each of them got three qualitative smoke detectors. Very safe and obligated in Flanders from 2020 on, at every floor in every house. In this way, we linked the useful to the pleasant.
After the signing we had a cosy moment together, with a glass and some bites.
In the meanwhile the recruiting of new target groups has started. From the beginning of November ’19 we are recruiting, besides captive owners, elderly people with a renovation need and some lifecycle-resistant measures. Moreover, we are looking for co-owners who need to renovate and have a cost for the common parts of the building, which they can’t pay. And finally we are searching landlords with one home they rent, that needs a renovation. It’s an intense and interesting recruitment.
