Aveiro expands its technological laboratories to Intermediate Schools
As part of the Aveiro Tech City initiative, the Tech Labs project aims to develop interest and foundational skills and knowledge in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) competences in students and teachers from all educational levels. Teachers will assume a fundamental role in the process, as Agents of Change, transferring knowledge to students by using innovative teaching methodologies. Teachers’ support is driven by a training programme to obtain the necessary skills to deliver the project. Both training programme and the monitoring process in school context was funded by Aveiro STEAM City project.
The training programme will be focused on exploring the various models and developing strategies to involve students in STEAM projects, in a total of 60 hours, involving 34 teachers in total. The follow-up scheme in classroom environment, 120 hours, will be carried out during October 2021 to March 2022 with activities in 10 schools, involving teachers and students.
Tech Labs is a project of the Municipality of Aveiro, developed in conjunction with the University of Aveiro and Fábrica – Centro de Ciência Viva, which is now extended to the entire educational community, involving more than 7800 students.
