2020 arrived and Vilawatt is back with more energy than ever!
Last July, the first contracts were signed with the energy company, and we now have around 400 families and businesses that have joined our project.
The first contracts as associated clients were signed with 11 Viladecans residents, the founding members of the Citizen Association for the Energy Transition. The new organisation was created to make headway towards the energy transition, create a new energy culture and do so in an innovative way. Vilawatt needs citizen engagement and participation throughout the entire process, so a neighbourhood association had to be created. To do so, the company offered its founding members the chance to be its first clients.
Last summer we didn’t stop for a moment. We were on the street with the “Vilawatt Gelat” (Frozen Vilawatt) during summer holidays with lots of ice creams and on September Vilawatt was also at Viladecans Town Festival (Festa Major). Vilawatt was there at the proclamation, the Mamullada water parade… and of course, we were back with more ice cream in our cart.
And what about the autumn? October arrived full of surprises… We held an event at the end of the month to celebrate the company’s first 100 days. Why? Because 100 is too important a number and we wanted to celebrate it.
Schools were also featured in an event in mid-October. The ecological transition and better energy habits came to classrooms to motivate the youngest and most creative minds in the city to help save the planet.
On November the project was presented at the Smart City World Congress 2019, where we could talk about the new local digital currency Vilawatt. The new currency, born from the desire to convert part of the energy savings achieved by customers of the new energy company, is electronic money, complementary to official money, in which a Vilawatt equals one euro. It is a secure and agile payment system that seeks to strengthen the local economy, raise energy transition awareness and promote social cohesion. The system is scheduled to be launched this January 2020.
Vilawatt was also present at Cities Forum 2020 at the end of January in Porto.
And as if that weren’t enough, you can always check out our website and keep Vilawatt permanently on your radar!
