For researchers, having access to a real arena where they can put their theories to test is invaluable. David Steen from the Chalmers University of Technology finds that being involved in the FED project, where the university campus is used as the testbed for a local energy market for heating, cooling and electricity, has opened new doors.
Project :SASMob - Smart Alliance for Sustainable Mobility
Nearly 1,500 employees were interviewed in a survey about their travel-to-work habits. Their answers show that the first priority is the time it takes for getting to one’s workplace. Is the car the best choice in this respect? Probably not – but the majority are convinced it is.
Project :APPLAUSE - Alien Plant Species from harmful to useful with citizens' led activities
One of the main focuses of the APPLAUSE project is the use of selected invasive alien plant species (IAPS) as raw materials for food. Selection of IAPS as food source is restricted by Novel Food Regulation in the EU (EC No 258/97, EU 2015/2283) therefore, after much consideration the IAPS chosen for the food preparation were cherry plum (Prunus cerasifera), Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus) and black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia).
The main objective of the CitiCAP (Citizens’ cap-and-trade co-created) project is to reduce the emissions from urban transport by means of personal carbon trading. Personal emissions are traded using a mobile application based on identification of the form of mobility. An application that identifies the form of mobility and that will be integrated into the final personal carbon trading app has been tested with residents. The fair allocation of personal emission allowances has been investigated with an allocation survey conducted on residents.
