New modern research equipment – a system for accelerated solvent extraction of solid and semisolid samples
We are talking about a modern system for accelerated solvent extraction ASE 350 (Thermo Scientific Dionex). Extraction of the sample is carried out at increased temperatures and pressure (approx. 100 °C and 100 bars), where an autosampler allows extracting 24 samples in a row. Different volumes of extraction cells (from 10 ml to 100 ml) can be used in the extraction process, allowing the extraction of different sample amounts. From now on the extraction in our laboratory is going to be much faster and efficient with reduced usage of energy. In comparison to the conventional extraction methods (e.g. maceration or Soxhlet extraction), the main advantages of speed extraction are shorter time of extraction and reduced solvent consumption. Consequently, the negative influences of organic solvents on the human health and environment are reduced as well. All the prepared wood and bark samples of Invasive Alien Plant Species (IAPS) are going to be extracted and chemically investigated in the near future.
Obtained wood extracts on IAPS. Extrication cells of 10 ml were used.
