INNOAIR: Social art as participatory place-making
Manastirski Livadi district is one of the most telling examples of negative consequences from uncontrolled development. The art project author – the Czech artist Katerina Seda, who has vast experience working with communities, aimed to offer the people of the neighborhood a chance to reflect on their urban environment, to give them a voice to share their ideas and visions in order to improve the place where they live. More than 100 residents parked their cars and drew on the windows of their cars what they wanted to add to or change in the street landscape, turning their automobiles into a temporary exhibition space. The outcomes of the art action are exhibited between December 19, 2020, and January 31, 2021, at the “Vaska Emanuilova” city art gallery.
The “Place by the Window” project is supported by the Ministry of Culture in the Czech Republic, the Czech Center in Sofia, Sofia Municipality, Vitosha District, Sofia City Art Gallery. It is realized on the initiative of the Sofia City Art Gallery - branch gallery Vaska Emanouilova and the association Together for Manastirski Livadi - West.
The project will continue in 2021, this time focusing on fine-tuning INNOAIR mobility innovations. With art as a medium, the INNOAIR team plans to engage the residents not merely in communication but in solution development for the innovative on-demand public transport service to be launched.
