Citizens in Portici monitoring Air Quality in real life
These findings were discussed during the webinar entitled "Air pollution in Portici at the time of COVID-19" which took place on the 15th May 2020. Several citizens (teachers, representatives of associations, etc.) participated, showing great interest and asking many questions regarding, in particular, the implications of pollution on health and quality of life.
During the seminar, an extraordinary air quality monitoring campaign was also announced. This aimed to "photograph" the situation during a period in which traffic was expected to remain reduced due to the closure of schools and people working from home.
The seminar was also a good opportunity to ask if there were any volunteers willing to monitor the air quality of their city for a period of 15 days using the mobile nodes (Monica) developed by the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development [ENEA]. The citizens responded enthusiastically and the volunteers attended a short training course to learn how Monica works.
As a result, the first citizen’s air quality monitoring campaign in the streets of Portici began on the 25th of May and ended on the 5th of June. That was considered an enormous success, with volunteers being very interested and satisfied by the whole experience, and willing to collaborate also in the future in other Air Heritage. Activities.
Finally it should be noted that some volunteers invited AIR HERITAGE experts to participate in seminars organized by their associations in order to share knowledge and information in an atmosphere of collaboration and empathy. It is not by chance, in fact, that the slogan of AIR HERITAGE is “ Love is in the air”!
