206 project proposals have been submitted gathering more than 300 urban authorities and more than 1000 public and private organizations from 21 Member States.

The UIA Permanent Secretariat would like to thank all applicants for their interest in the Initiative.

The selection process has already started and it will structured around the following steps and key dates:

  • Eligibility check: ongoing. All applicants (eligible and not eligible) will be notified by the Permanent Secretariat about the status of their project by the end of May 2017.
  • Strategic Assessment: all eligible applications will be assessed by a Panel of External Experts concerning the innovativeness, the quality of the partnership, the measurability of results and transferability. Only the best projects will be included in a short-list for the Operational Assessment. Projects not included in the shortlist will be notified by the Permanent Secretariat by the end of July 2017.
  • Operational assessment: Projects shortlisted as a result of the Strategic Assessment will be assessed by the Permanent Secretariat concerning operational aspects such as the intervention logic, the quality of the budget and the management structures as well as communication activities. Building on this assessment, the UIA Selection Committee will take the final decision by the end of September 2017.
  • Official announcement: the projects selected for the 2nd Call for Proposals will be announced during an event organized by UIA in the framework of the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels (9-12 October 2017)

We wish all applicants good luck with their proposals and we are looking forward to discovering the bold and innovative ideas that urban authorities and stakeholders have imagined and co-designed.
